Senate DFLers Condemn President Trump’s Pardon of January 6 Insurrectionists

Senate Approves Resolution Calling President’s Action a Betrayal of Law Enforcement

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy (DFL- St. Paul) said today that the Minnesota Senate has condemned President Trump’s mass pardon of 1,500 convicted criminal insurrectionists who committed acts of criminal violence during the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

On Tuesday, the Senate approved a resolution authored by Senator Ron Latz (DFL-St. Louis Park) condemning President Trump’s pardon of participants in the January 6 insurrection who had been found guilty.

“Donald Trump’s mass pardon of 1,500 people who criminally and violently attacked law enforcement officers and our country is a betrayal of both the law enforcement community and our democracy,” said Leader Murphy. “The attack led to deaths of five law enforcement officers, four by suicide, and injuries to another 140 officers.  As Minnesotans, we understand that this is wrong, and today the Senate upheld its oath to the Constitutions of Minnesota and the United States by voting to condemn Donald Trump’s actions. This should not be a partisan issue, and I am disappointed that so many Senate GOP members are working to oppose this resolution and endorse these unacceptable pardons.”
