Senate and House DFLers were joined by frontline workers in a Rochester press conference this week as part of DFL efforts to push for immediate action by the Legislature on a $1 billion package that would provide $1500 in pandemic worker bonuses for 667,000 frontline workers across Minnesota.
Delivering this bonus for workers is part of the unfinished promise made at the end of last year’s session. A bipartisan working group met throughout the summer to find common ground for these workers, but Senate Republicans refused to provide this help to all frontline workers.
Now, with a projected $7.7 billion budget surplus, DFLers are fighting to ensure every one of the frontline workers – including workers in health care, nursing homes, retail, maintenance, childcare, and others – get the bonus they deserve.
Efforts to highlight the stories of frontline workers and the need for urgent action on this issue will continue with a press conference in St. Cloud and a virtual press conference with workers and legislators from Moorhead on Friday.
