DFL Members of the Senate Agriculture Committee unanimously supported legislation to deliver new grant-based and recovery loan relief to Minnesota farmers and ranchers impacted by historic drought conditions in 2021. Senate DFLers continue to call for immediate passage of this relief by early next week.
“I am working hard to join with my Senate colleagues in support of this important relief package for Minnesota’s farmers and ranchers,” says Senator Kent Eken (DFL – Audubon). “We know it is urgent to get this relief to our rural communities and I continue to push my colleagues to advance this legislation immediately. There is no reason we can’t get this done by early next week.”
“I’m glad to see movement on this important relief bill, and we should pass this off the floor as soon as possible,” says Senator Nick Frentz (DFL – Mankato). “Agriculture Commissioner Thom Petersen has been clear that the Legislature must act now to ensure this relief makes it to our ranchers and farmers as they prepare for the Spring planting season.”
“Like last year’s rains, this drought relief is long overdue.” said Senator Erin Murphy (DFL – Saint Paul), ranking DFL-Lead on the Committee. “I will continue to work to get necessary drought relief to Minnesota’s farmers across the state.”
