Senate hears governor’s housing bill

The Senate Housing Finance and Policy Committee had an informational hearing this week on Governor Walz’s bill for housing in Minnesota. The governor’s budget appropriates $225 million in FY 2023 and $184 million in FY 2024-25. The bill invests millions of dollars into workforce housing, homelessness prevention, preserving affordable housing, and ensuring housing stability for children.

Given Senate Republican priorities, it will be challenging to match the governor’s investment in housing. In the coming weeks, Senate Republicans will announce their budget targets, making clear what their priorities are going into end of session negotiations. (SF 3994)
