Senate Republicans had an information hearing on Governor Walz’s proposal for jobs and workforce development. Written and verbal testimony was taken in support of the proposal from a large swath of organizations and even local units of government. The proposal contains $2.73 billion that would be deposited into the Unemployment Trust Fund, which would eliminate some tax increases on businesses across the state.
The bill also makes substantial investments in training and enhancing the skills of our workforce for high-demand jobs. Additionally, the proposal includes publicly funded medical and family leave benefits for Minnesotans. Many individuals do not have access to paid medical and family leave, requiring them to make difficult choices between prioritizing a newborn or the health of their loved ones versus working to pay their bills.
