Senate Higher Education Committee hears governor’s supplemental budget

Higher education is critical to the future of our state’s economy and ensuring that Minnesota continues to be a great place to live. The governor’s supplemental budget makes needed investments in many different avenues to support students and open the doors to many more. Most notably, it invests $10 million in an application fee waiver program, removing a barrier that is more costly to Minnesotans who want to have options.

The governor’s budget also expands eligibility for State Grants up to ten semesters, eliminating a penalty on students who need additional time to complete their degree. Recognizing the changing nature of higher education, this budget also invests $7 million to support expectant and parenting college students, who face unique barriers to enrollment, persistence, and completion.
