Senate Housing & Homelessness Prevention Committee Considers Senator Zaynab Mohamed’s ‘Bring it Home’ Rental Assistance Bill

SAINT PAUL, Minn. Senator Zaynab Mohamed (DFL—Minneapolis) presented her Bring it Home rental assistance bill (SF 11) Thursday in the Senate Committee on Housing and Homelessness Prevention.

“Every Minnesotan deserves to have a place to call home” said Senator Mohamed. “I know firsthand how difficult it is to apply for public housing, and I also know how transformative rental assistance can be for working families. The research is clear: rental assistance improves mental and physical health for household members, improves employment retention for adults, and improves school performance for children. Today’s committee hearing was an important step forward in our effort to ensure that everyone in our state can have safe and reliable housing.”

The bill was laid over by the Senate Housing and Homelessness Prevention Committee. Chair Lindsey Port (DFL—Burnsville) expressed support for the legislation, referencing her work on the bill as a co-author in the previous legislative session.
