Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy Announces Bri Sharkey-Smith as DFL Caucus Chief of Staff

Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy (DFL- St. Paul) announced today that Bri Sharkey-Smith will become the Senate DFL Caucus Chief of Staff starting March 4.

Majority Leader Murphy said Sharkey-Smith, who currently serves as a Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Tim Walz, brings a wealth of policy, communications, and leadership experience to her new Senate role.

“Bri Sharkey-Smith comes to the Senate with years of experience managing people and teams with a record of success,” said Majority Leader Murphy. “Bri’s experience with leaders, communities and issues and her relationships with members of our caucus prepares her to serve our state, which is valuable as we continue our work on behalf of Minnesotans. I am excited to have her join as a team member of our caucus.”

“I’m honored and humbled to be joining the Senate DFL Caucus as Chief of Staff,” said Sharkey-Smith.  “I had the privilege of working alongside this incredible team to win the Senate in 2022, so joining the caucus in this capacity is a real full-circle moment. I’m grateful to Leader Murphy for the opportunity to serve the people of Minnesota, and I look forward to getting to work.”

Prior to her role in the governor’s office, Sharkey-Smith played a key campaign role in helping DFLers win the Senate majority in 2022. She was the founder and president of the Minneapolis-St. Paul chapter of the National Organization for Women. In the private sector, Sharkey-Smith was vice president of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate All Seasons, where she led a team of 85 real estate agents across the state. Sharkey-Smith is a graduate of the College of St. Benedict and received an M.F.A. from Hamline University.

Erin Murphy represents Senate District 64, which includes portions of the Saint Paul community.
