Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy Says Senator Clare Oumou Verbeten Elected Assistant DFL Caucus Leader 

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy (DFL- St. Paul) said today that Senator Clare Oumou Verbeten (DFL-St. Paul) has been elected by her colleagues as Assistant Leader of the Senate DFL Caucus.

“Senator Oumou Verbeten is a talented and valuable member of the DFL Caucus and I’m excited that she is bringing her gifts to our leadership team,” said Majority Leader Murphy.

“I am grateful to my colleagues for electing me to serve as an Assistant Majority Leader,” said Senator Clare Oumou Verbeten (DFL- St. Paul). “In 2022, I was elected as one of the first Black women to serve in the Senate, and in 2024, I am the first Black woman to serve as an Assistant Leader in this body. In this role, I will continue to fight to make Minnesota a more inclusive and equitable place for all.”

Senator Oumou Verbeten was elected to the Senate in 2022 and is serving her first term.  Besides her leadership post, she serves as Vice Chair of the Judiciary and Public Safety Committee, and is a member of the Education Finance Committee, the Higher Education Committee and the Labor Committee.
