Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy Statement

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – On Monday, the State of Minnesota and Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul filed a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security to force an end of the surge in federal agents in Minnesota. Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy (DFL- St. Paul) released the following statement today:

“I strongly support the action by Attorney General Ellison and city leaders to get masked, hostile and unaccountable federal agents out of our cities. This surge of ICE agents has sown chaos in the streets, with countless violations of civil liberties and a dangerous disruption of daily life as Minnesotans know it. Schools and businesses have closed, and many Minnesotans have been forced to avoid unlawful detention. No one is safer because of this, and our neighbor Renee Good is dead. Minnesotans reacted to that tragedy with peaceful protest in the name of justice. Kristi Noem responded by defaming Renee, covering up the investigation and promising to send even more of her agents to harass, provoke and abuse Minnesotans. We will work together to bring an end to the chaos and suffering rendered under Donald Trump. ICE can’t leave our state soon enough.”
