The Minneapolis Delegation releases the following statement regarding the shooting death of a Minneapolis man by an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement Agent today:
“Another person is dead today because of ICE. They must leave Minnesota now.
While we wait for more details, we share our deepest condolences to Alex Pretti, his family and friends, and the entire community impacted by this violence. We pledge to do everything in our power to make sure that those responsible are held accountable.
The federal government has lied to the people of Minnesota and to the people of the United States about Operation Metro Surge. It is a direct threat to the life and liberty of every member of our community and is only bringing chaos and violence.
The agents who participated must be arrested and brought to justice in a transparent and thorough investigation.
Congress must withhold further funding for ICE and use its oversight powers to immediately review the conduct of these federal agents who are showing a blatant disregard for not only constitutional rights, but human life itself.
We have seen too much horror on our streets for a lifetime. The safety of our people is our priority, and we urge community members practicing their constitutional rights to do so safely, and to allow our local and state partners to secure the scene and guard a transparent and independent investigation.”
The Minneapolis Delegation to the Minnesota Senate includes: Senate President Bobby Joe Champion (DFL – SD59), Senators Scott Dibble (DFL – SD61), Doron Clark (DFL – SD60), Omar Fateh (DFL – SD62), Zaynab Mohamed (DFL – SD63), and Senator Melissa H. Wiklund (DFL – SD51).
