Senate Passes State and Local Government Omnibus Bill

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Today, the Senate passed Senate File 3045, the State and Local Government omnibus bill. The bill continues to fund state agencies at responsible levels, ensuring that the services many Minnesotans rely on are available and accessible.

Notable provisions include:

  • Funding state agencies, the Attorney General’s Office, the Office of the Secretary of State, and the State Auditor’s Office
  • Strengthen the Office of the Legislative Auditor’s ability to investigate misuse of government resources
  • Creates the Minnesota Business Filing Fraud to protect Minnesota businesses
  • Designating the Giant Beaver as the state fossil

Chair Tou Xiong (DFL – Maplewood) made the following statement:

“In a time of great uncertainty, I am proud of this bill that continues to fund our state government in a responsible manner,” said Chair Xiong. “Our bill funds the state programs many Minnesotans rely on, fights fraud against state agencies, and continues our belief in accountable, transparent government.

“I’m thankful for this opportunity to lead our Senate State and Local Government Committee for the first time this legislative session. It has been a great experience with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, and that work is shown in this bipartisan bill.”

The Senate State and Local Government omnibus bill passed on a vote of 35-29. The bill will now be sent to the House for consideration. You can view the entire floor debate here.
