Senate Republicans lit up red on Cannabis bill

Senate DFLers have repeatedly introduced legislation to legalize and regulate cannabis and expunge low-level cannabis-related records. Senate Republicans have refused to act on this bill and voted it down in the one committee hearing it had in 2019.

Senate DFLers acted this week to bring a cannabis bill once again to the floor. In a time when Minnesota is grappling with how to keep our communities safe – especially those communities most harmed by the prohibition – we should be making it easier for law enforcement to focus on real public safety issues. Legalizing cannabis is an easy way to do so. But Senate Republicans hid behind procedure and voted again against moving a cannabis bill forward.

The House has already passed a bill to legalize cannabis, and the governor supports legalization. Senate DFLers are committed to continuing the fight to legalize cannabis. (SF 757)
