Senator Alice Mann Announces She Will Not Seek Reelection

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Today, Senator Alice Mann (DFL – Edina) announced that she will not seek reelection to the Senate at the end of her current term.  First elected to the House in 2018 representing Lakeville and Burnsville, and later to the Senate in 2022 representing Edina and Bloomington, Senator Mann has centered her legislative work on making healthcare more affordable and strengthening public health, priorities informed by her work as an emergency room physician.

Senator Mann was the chief author of Minnesota’s Paid Leave program launching January 1, 2026, which will provide critical support for Minnesotans caring for themselves or a loved one, welcoming a new child, to serving in the military, or seeking safety leave. She has been strong advocate for workers’ rights, passing a ban on multiple forms of non-compete agreements and securing salary transparency to address wage gaps.

During her time in office, Senator Mann strengthened oversight of Pharmacy Benefit Managers, established no-cost breast cancer screening, supported independent pharmacies through new payment systems, created a medication repository program to expand access to prescription medications for those in need, and advanced efforts to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality.

“It has been an immense honor to serve my community in the legislature,” said Senator Mann. “I came to the Capitol to make health care more affordable, strengthen public health for all Minnesotans, and pass policies like Paid Leave that will help working families build stability and thrive. While that work is never done, I am proud of the real progress we have made in Minnesota. As I step away when my term ends, I am profoundly grateful for the trust my community placed in me and the chance to serve the state I love and afforded me my American Dream.”

“Senator Mann packed a lot of hard, effective work into her years at the Capitol,” said Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy. “She fought fiercely to expand healthcare access and lower the cost of care, to increase pay and opportunities for workers, and for basic rights for all Minnesotans. On January 1, millions of working Minnesotans will benefit from a new paid leave program that guarantees the right time off to recover from serious illness or care for a newborn or sick relative. That program would not exist without the effort and intelligence Senator Mann brought to the debate. Her relentless advocacy and passionate, authentic words set a tone that often won the day, even on the most complex or difficult issues. Her community, our caucus and this state thank her for all that she’s worked on and accomplished. Her commitment to people is boundless. I expect she will be in the fight for Minnesotans today, next session, and beyond.”
