Senator Alice Mann Introduces Legislation to Provide Medical Assistance for Incarcerated Individuals

SAINT PAUL, Minn. Senator Alice Mann (DFL-Edina) introduced SF 3509 to provide access to Medical Assistance (MA) for incarcerated individuals.

“By providing health care coverage prior to release, we ensure that individuals receive care before their needs become an emergency,” said Sen. Mann. “We have relied on incarceration for too long to fix the problems affecting the health and well-being of our neighbors. Substance use, recovery, and mental health require medical care – not stigma. It is essential that we ensure formerly incarcerated individuals have medical stability so they can return to community with one less disadvantage.”

Senate File 3509 is one of Sen. Mann’s top priorities for the legislative session. The bill was referred to the Senate Health and Human Services Committee.

Senator Alice Man represents Senate District 50 which includes Bloomington and Edina. She is vice chair of the Health and Human Services Committee, and serves on the Education Policy Committee and the Human Services Committee.
