ST. PAUL, Minn. — Yesterday, the legislature passed a comprehensive and bipartisan bonding bill totaling $1.2 billion in general obligation bonds and $45 million in general fund spending. Senator Ann Johnson Stewart helped to secure four local projects that total over $15.653 million in community investment and job creation.
“I am thrilled that we secured such a robust infrastructure bill this year to invest in shovel-ready projects that provide clean water, safer roads and modern classrooms at state colleges to Minnesotans across the state,” said Senator Johnson Stewart. “The projects included in Minnetonka, Excelsior, Minnetonka Beach, and Minnestrista are the first bonding dollars these cities have received. These funds will go to critical work to replace deteriorating water pipes and sewer systems to ensure our community has access to safe drinking water, as well as investing in public safety.”
“I am proud to have built this bill with the support of colleagues like Senator Johnson Stewart,” said Senator Sandy Pappas, Chair of Capital Investment Committee (DFL – St. Paul). “She brings irreplaceable insights to our work, earned from years working on construction sites, that drive home the importance of consistent investment in our state’s shared assets. I am grateful for her expertise and dedication to the workers who make these projects possible.”
Several local projects in District 45 were included in the package, such as:
- City of Minnetonka – Ridgedale & I-394 Fire Station Construction — $2.5 million
- City of Excelsior – Infrastructure Projects — $ 5.613 million
- City of Minnetonka Beach – Streets and Utility Reconstruction for water mains and sewer systems — $4.54 million
- City of Minnetrista – Water Supply and Treatment — $3 million
The bills will now move to Governor Walz’ desk for signature into law.
