Saint Paul, Minn. – Legislation authored by Senator Ann Johnson Stewart (DFL – Minnetonka) to crack down on Medicaid fraud has advanced to the Senate floor. The bill was added to the Supplemental Finance bill and was passed out of Senate Finance Committee.
“This is about protecting taxpayer dollars and making sure our state resources go to Minnesotans who need care,” said Senator Johnson Stewart. “This bill gives our fraud investigators the tools and staffing they need to effectively hold bad actors accountable.”
The bill, known as the Medical Assistance Protection (MAP) Act boosts staffing for the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, improves legal tools to go after complex fraud schemes, and helps the state recover stolen funds more efficiently.
“When we invest in accountability we’re bringing money back into our system, which is a win for taxpayers and for the integrity of our critical healthcare programs,” said Senator Johnson Stewart.
The MAP Act was amended onto SF2433, the Supplemental Finance bill. The overall bill passed by voice vote and was sent to the Senate floor.
