ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Sunday, Senator Aric Putnam (DFL-St. Cloud) announced the expansion of his Committee to now oversee Veterans issues. The Committee on Agriculture, Veterans, Broadband and Rural Development Committee will also establish a dedicated Subcommittee on Veterans when state lawmakers open the new legislative session on Tuesday, January 14th.
“I am honored to serve as chair of the Senate’s Agriculture, Veterans, Broadband and Rural Development Committee, and to formalize the Subcommittee on Veterans as a dedicated space for Veterans issues across the state.” said Senator Putnam. “I sought this role because it provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with the Department of Veterans Affairs and our veterans to craft meaningful legislation that will directly benefit Minnesota veterans. As someone who has been shaped by growing up in a military family, with a deep military history that spans WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, I have a deep respect for those who serve and protect our country. I represent thousands of veterans, and I am eager to get to work to ensure that our veterans receive the care, respect, and support they’ve earned, and that they deserve.”
As chair of the Agriculture Committee for the past two years, Senator Putnam has held more than 80 meetings across the state with farmers, farm groups, and rural and business leaders to discuss the needs and importance of agriculture to Minnesota’s economy and culture. He is eager to apply the same approach to engaging with Minnesota’s veterans as Chair of the Subcommittee on Veterans; listening to their community and working together to find long-term solutions that will support and benefit our veterans.
Senator Putnam will serve as Chair of the Subcommittee on Veterans, other members of the committee will be announced soon and will not be limited to members serving on the broader Agriculture Committee.
