ST. PAUL, Minn. – Thanks to her leadership on advancing companion animal welfare in Minnesota, Senator Karla Bigham (DFL-Cottage Grove) was named a 2020 Animal Advocate Award from the Animal Humane Society on Tuesday.
“I want to thank the Animal Humane Society for this recognition and for their continued advocacy and work to create a more humane world for animals in Minnesota,” said Senator Karla Bigham. “I’m proud to continue to work to ensure that our pet stores are treating animals with dignity, and that we are doing everything we can to prevent the abuse or mistreatment of pets in our state.”
Senator Bigham received the recognition thanks to her work on SF 3307, the Humane Pet Store bill, which she introduced along with Representative Carlie Kotyza-Witthuhn in the House.
“The Animal Humane Society applauds Senator Bigham’s leadership in introducing bi-partisan legislation to address this important issue,” said Kathy Mock, the Chief Government Affairs and Community Engagement Officer at the Animal Humane Society. “The 2020 Animal Advocate award honors her work to compassionately and responsibly create a more humane world for animals.”
