Senator Bigham Returns to Minnesota State Senate

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The 2021 Legislative Session began Tuesday, January 5 with the swearing-in of the new and returning members of the Minnesota Legislature. State Senator Karla Bigham (DFL-Cottage Grove) will be returning for a second time, in her first full term at the Senate, to serve as the Senator for Senate District 54, and looks forward to getting to work on the important issues facing her constituents.

“It is an honor and a privilege to once again take my oath of office to serve as state senator, and I am excited to get to work with my colleagues to craft a budget and address the issues facing the residents of SD 54,” said Bigham. “While this session will look different we remain committed to getting our work done safely and on time, and in making sure our constituents can participate fully in an open and transparent session.

Senator Bigham will be serving on three committees this year. Senator Bigham will be the DFL-Lead on the Civil Law and Data Practices Committee, and will also serve on the Judiciary and Public Safety Finance and Policy Committee and the Local Government Policy Committee. 

“With my experience as a Cottage Grove City council member, a Washington County Commissioner, and my previous work as a paralegal, I bring a strong background and interest in these issues,” said Senator Bigham. “We have a lot of work to do, and I am excited to get to work in the 2021 Session.”
