Senator Bobby Joe Champion Condemns GOP for Blocking Jobs and Labor Bill

Says GOP Demanding Rollback of Paid Leave in Trade for Relief for Businesses Hurt by Metro Surge

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Senator Bobby Joe Champion (DFL-Minneapolis) released the following statement on the current status of the Jobs and Labor bill.

“At this time, there is not a path forward for the jobs and labor omnibus as it is currently constituted. For reasons I cannot understand, House Republicans don’t think the hundreds of businesses and thousands of workers who lost income during Operation Metro Surge deserve a single dollar. In fact, Republicans have said they would only consider that support if we agree to roll back the paid leave program tens of thousands of workers are already accessing to recover from illness or injury, care for a new baby or a loved one. The Republicans should stop putting corporate interests and partisan politics ahead of Minnesota’s small businesses and workers.”
