Says Federal Lawlessness Cannot Continue In Our State
Minneapolis – On Sunday, federal Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents conducted a raid on a home in the Camden neighborhood of Minneapolis, kicking in the door with guns drawn, and proceeded to arrest a man. It is unclear whether a sufficient judicial warrant was provided. Senate President Bobby Joe Champion (DFL – Minneapolis) issued the following statement:
“The federal government needs to answer for the apparent violations of due process and protections from unreasonable searches and seizures for which every person present in the United States is entitled.
Every day, my constituents and neighbors are having their rights violated by these ICE officials deployed in our city. This lawlessness cannot go on.
I am calling on the federal government to investigate these alleged constitutional violations, and for state officials to conduct our own investigation to ensure the rights of every Minnesotan are protected.
I want every Minnesotan to know their rights. If ICE knocks on your door you do not have to let them in and ask to see a judicial warrant.”
