Senator Bobby Joe Champion Strongly Denounces Trump’s Continued Targeting of Minnesota’s Somali Community

Says He Will Continue to Stand With Community to Fight Dangerous ICE Deployment

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Senator Bobby Joe Champion (DFL-Minneapolis) strongly condemned The Trump Administration’s targeted deployment of federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents against Somali Minnesotans and the recent hateful and threatening rhetoric that endangers Minnesota’s Somali Community.

“President Trump’s statement that he did not want Somali immigrants in the United States is not only shocking, but it’s dangerous and just plain wrong. These are our friends and neighbors who contribute to economic and cultural well-being of our state,” said Senator Champion. “By sending federal ICE agents to target Minnesota’s Somali Community he is launching another divisive attack on our state and all of its people. The President’s numerous attempts to villainize this important Community are not only dehumanizing, they’re also completely divorced from reality. I stand with Somali Minnesotans.” ###
