Senator Champion Statement on shooting death of 6-year-old Aniya Allen

Six-year-old Aniya Allen was shot in the head during a shootout in North Minneapolis on Monday. She passed away at the Hennepin County Medical Center on Wednesday afternoon.

In response to the tragic shooting death, Senator Bobby Joe Champion (DFL-Minneapolis) released the following statement:

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic killing of Aniya Allen and I express my deepest condolences to her family and loved ones as they mourn this incredibly painful loss. I stand with the families of Aniya Allen, Ladavionne Garrett Jr., Trinity Ottoson-Smith, and the families of all innocent children who have suffered at the hands of gun violence in our city in recent weeks.”

“We need to work together to protect our children and keep our community safe from violence. It will take all of us working collectively to find effective, lasting solutions so that all communities in Minneapolis and throughout Minnesota are safe and feel safe.”
