ST. PAUL, Minn. – In response to federal criminal charges announced today against 47 defendants implicated in fraudulent behavior with the Feeding our Future food program, Senator Chuck Wiger (DFL-Maplewood), ranking DFL-Lead on the Senate Education Finance and Policy Committee, released the following statement:
“My colleagues and I applaud the work of federal law enforcement partners and the Department of Justice in their investigation and in their announcement today. We are also grateful of the Minnesota Department of Education’s diligence in raising questions and trying to stop this scheme. It is shameful that instead of going to meals for children, this funding was used for luxury items and vacation homes. These allegations are shocking and if proven to be true, anyone involved must be held accountable.”
