Senator Clare Oumou Verbeten Celebrates Passage of $12 Million for Crime Victim Services

Funds in Safety and Security Legislation Fills Federal Funding Gap

ST. PAUL, Minn. — On Saturday, May 16, the Senate passed SF 3432, a safety and security measures legislative package, 59-8. Within the bill is a provision providing $12 million to the Crime Victim Services Fund. Earlier this year, that fund faced a shortfall of the same amount due to federal cuts.

Vice Chair of the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee Senator Clare Oumou Verbeten (DFL-St. Paul) releases the following statement:

“These funds are a lifeline to the domestic violence shelters, rape crisis shelters, advocates, and other crime victim services that serve Minnesotans in every county during the darkest moments of their lives. The programs that the Crime Victim Services Fund make possible are irreplaceable, and we must find a long-term funding source to prevent this kind of shortfall in the future. I look forward to working toward that solution.”
