Senator Clausen releases statement on the conviction of Derek Chauvin

On Tuesday, April 20, 2021 a jury declared former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin guilty on three counts in the death of George Floyd: second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.

Following the verdict, Senator Greg Clausen (DFL-Apple Valley) released the following statement:

“The trial of Derek Chauvin marks a defining moment for racial justice in our history- and this moment demands continued law enforcement reforms to ensure that every Minnesotan makes it home safely. My prayers are with George Floyd’s family today, and with our entire community as we grieve, reflect, and call for action.

“Further law enforcement reforms are needed and the responsibility falls to the Minnesota Legislature to take action. I am committed to doing my part, and will support the Senate POCI Caucus as they lead Minnesota to ensure public safety for all Minnesotans regardless of where they live, their skin color, or their economic status. True justice will be achieved when we have seen the last unarmed young Black man killed by law enforcement.”
