Senator Clausen responds to officer involved shooting of Daunte Wright

On Sunday, April 11, 2021, Daunte Wright was fatally shot by Brooklyn Center police. Senator Greg Clausen (DFL-Apple Valley) released the following statement about this tragic incident:

“I want to offer my deepest condolences to Daunte Wright’s family and the Brooklyn Center community- I am grieving his tragic death with you. Unfortunately, the events of Sunday afternoon is just the most recent example of yet another interaction with a police officer that has ended with the death of a young black man. Daunte Wright’s death demonstrates what should have already been clear to the Minnesota legislature: police reforms are long overdue and the time to act is now,” said Senator Greg Clausen. “The police reform legislation passed last summer was a positive first step, but our work is far from finished. I don’t have all the solutions but look forward to working with my colleagues in the legislature, law enforcement, and community activists to address this issue. I am hopeful that further public safety reforms can be enacted before the end of the current legislative session.”
