Senator Cwodzinski Praises Ricker, Mueller for their service to education

Minnesota Department of Education Commissioner Mary Catherine Ricker announced Tuesday that she would be stepping down from her role as Commissioner to return to the classroom. Following her announcement, it was announced by Governor Walz that Deputy Commissioner Heather Mueller would be appointed Commissioner effective April 1.

Senator Steve Cwodzinski (DFL-Eden Prairie), released the following statement thanking Commissioner Ricker for her service.

“I want to thank Commissioner Ricker for her service and work for Minnesota’s students and educators. Under challenging and difficult circumstances, she and her team have done tremendous work to ensure our schools are delivering the education our students need. I also completely understand the urge to get back into the classroom, and look forward to her returning to teaching our future leaders.

Deputy Commissioner Mueller has the knowledge and experience necessary to excel as our next Commissioner of Education. She is a proven leader, and her appointment is great news for the state of Minnesota. Our students and teachers are in great hands with her leadership. She was a student in my class at Minnesota State-Mankato when I taught there for a term. I remember her being diligent, insightful and intelligent in her approach. I look forward to working with her.”
