Senator Dibble responds to the officer involved shooting of Daunte Wright

On Sunday, April 11, 2021, Daunt Wright was fatally shot by Brooklyn Center police. Senator Scott Dibble (DFL-Minneapolis) released the following statement about this tragic incident:

“Yet another tragic killing of a Black man at the hands of law enforcement occurred in our community yesterday. This must stop. I join my colleagues and community in mourning the tragic loss of Daunte Wright. The Legislature needs to act swiftly and comprehensively. We cannot allow tragedy after tragedy to occur, awaiting resolve for results to materialize.

“I call on Senator Warren Limmer, Chair of the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee, to follow the leadership of our People of Color and Indigenous (POCI) Legislative Caucus, and to stop blocking passage of a comprehensive police and criminal justice legislation package to the Senate floor that my BIPOC colleagues have developed. It is time for us to follow their lead in dismantling the practices and legacy of institutionalized racism. The voices of BIPOC legislators and communities must be centered in this painful and essential conversation. Justice must be served.”
