ST. PAUL, Minn. – The 2021 Legislative Session began Tuesday, January 5 with the ceremonial swearing-in of the 67 new and returning members of the Minnesota State Senate. State Senator Kent Eken (DFL-Twin Valley) will be returning to serve his third term as Senator for Senate District 4.
“I want to thank my constituents for putting their trust in me to continue to serve as their State Senator, and I look forward to getting to work on their behalf to address the issues facing our community and state,” said Senator Eken. “These are challenging times, and we have a lot of work to do in continuing to ensure the health and safety of our community during this public health crisis, passing a balanced and responsible budget, and in ensuring a strong economic recovery for our main street businesses.”
A major priority for Senator Eken has been long-term care and ensuring Minnesota’s elderly and most vulnerable are given the support services they need in long-term care facilities throughout the state. As the DFL-Lead on the Aging and Long Term Care Policy Committee, he will work with his colleagues to ensure a life of dignity for all Minnesotans.
“While we have done a lot of work in strengthening policies in long-term care facilities, we have more work to do, and it is urgently needed,” said Senator Eken. “Every one of us in the legislature has a responsibility to make sure the state is doing everything it can to protect our vulnerable and elderly citizens, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to deliver necessary changes.”
Senator Eken will also be serving on the Agriculture and Rural Development Finance and Policy Committee, as well as serving as a DFL Caucus Whip for the 2021-2022 Legislative Session.
