SAINT PAUL, MN – On Monday, Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) announced an inflation-adjusted budget surplus of $17.5 billion. Assistant Senate Majority Leader Senator Erin Murphy (DFL-Minneapolis) released the following statement in response to the economic forecast:
“Despite our ongoing budget surplus, it is clear that the needs of Minnesotans are urgent and far outweigh our resources. Over the past eight weeks I have heard stories about underfunded schools, unaffordable homes, and the unmet basic needs our veterans, seniors, students, workers, and parents deserve. We must commit to keeping the budget structurally balanced, now and into the future, and ensure that we can pay for what we spend, while keeping the people of Minnesota at the center of our decisions.”
