Senator Foung Hawj Welcomes USA Gymnastics Olympic Trials

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The USA Gymnastics Olympic Trials are set to begin on Thursday, June 27th, 2024, in Minnesota for the first time. More than 9,000 athletes and 130,000 gymnastics fans will participate in the trials, USA Gymnastics Championships, and other related events this weekend at the Target Center. To celebrate the event and welcome athletes and attendees, Senator Foung Hawj (DFL – St. Paul) released the following statement:

“I am honored to welcome gymnasts from across the country to Minnesota to compete in the USA Gymnastics Team Olympic Trials. The East Side of St. Paul is so proud of our hometown reigning Olympic Gold Medalist Sunisa Lee, the first Hmong American Olympian and tenth most decorated American female Gymnast at the 2020 games in Tokyo.

Last year, with the help and advocacy of Sunisa Lee, I carried a bill to attract major sports and events to Minnesota, which helped to bring the trials to our state. Governor Walz has proclaimed it “Gymnastics City USA Week” and I want to welcome all coming to Minnesota for these exciting events. We are honored to host these incredible athletes and I look forward to cheering on Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics.”
