SAINT PAUL, Minn. — While budget negotiations continue behind closed doors at the state Capitol, Senator Melisa Franzen, DFL-Edina, Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, and Bloomington, announced her plan to refuse per diem pay for work associated with a special session.
“I will be refusing to take my per diem pay during a special session because I believe that is the right thing to do,” said Franzen. “Legislators have one job in a budget year – to pass a balanced budget for the next two years. This is clearly not what happened this legislative session, and I’m willing to work overtime without pay to finish the work for the people of Minnesota and that includes the people of my district – the ones that expect me to be a strong voice for them. I don’t expect taxpayers to foot the bill when we still have work to do after adjournment.”
