Senator Hauschild Plans to Donate Proceeds to Northland Second Harvest
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Senator Grant Hauschild (DFL-Hermantown) joined a bipartisan, bicameral tradition Wednesday at the State Capitol as he participated in the 8th annual Minnesota Grocers Association Annual Bag-Off, a head-to-head race between legislators to bag groceries.
“We have a lot of traditions in the Minnesota State Capitol, but there aren’t many that compare to this,” said Sen. Hauschild. “I knew when I was asked to participate, I’d have my work cut out competing against reigning champ Leader Demuth, but I gave it my all. While it’s a light-hearted event, it also highlights the great work of grocers throughout Minnesota and the impact they have on our communities.”
While speed is of the essence, contestants were also judged on weight distribution, style, and appearance by guest judge Brett Willhite, Executive Director of Weights and Measures at the Minnesota Department of Commerce. Ahead of the competition, the Minnesota Grocers Association also presented a $2,000 check to Second Harvest Heartland as part of their 2024 Bag Hunger Campaign and will make an additional donation to Second Harvest Northland in support of Senator Hauschild’s District.
