Senator Gustafson Joins Lieutenant Governor Flanagan in Highlighting Climate Week at White Bear Lake’s Pine Tree Apple Orchard

[WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn.] – Senator Heather Gustafson (DFL-Vadnais Heights) joined Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan Thursday to highlight White Bear Lake’s Pine Tree Apple Orchard and their climate resiliency work. The farm visit comes as Minnesota celebrates Climate Week in the state.

“Climate change is a challenge for Minnesota, and we know that innovating and adapting to the new normal will be crucial to the health and success of our state,” said Sen. Gustafson, who is a member of the Senate Agriculture, Broadband, and Rural Development Committee. “The folks at Pine Tree Apple Orchard are just one example of the climate leaders in our community who are tackling this challenge head-on.”

Thursday’s visit celebrateed two programs that promote local products and sustainability efforts like the ones Pine Tree Apple Orchard have instituted, Minnesota Grown and the Minnesota Ag Water Quality Certification Program.

Pine Tree Apple Orchard has been a Minnesota Grown member since 1984 and received their MN Ag Water Quality Certification in 2023. On this 100+ year old apple orchard, they grow many Minnesota apple varieties, have value-added products, and are implementing resilient farming techniques including the use of hail netting.
