Senator Hauschild Joins Legislature in Honoring Representative Mary Murphy

Library construction grant program renamed in honor of longtime Hermantown legislator

(ST. PAUL, Minn.) – The Minnesota Senate voted Tuesday to honor the late, longtime State Representative Mary Murphy by renaming the library construction grants program in her honor. Once signed into law, the Mary C. Murphy Library Construction Grants Program will continue her legacy supporting statewide literacy efforts and the education of Minnesota’s children.

“Mary Murphy was an icon, not just in Hermantown and the Northland, but in the entire state of Minnesota,” said Senator Grant Hauschild (DFL-Hermantown). “As a teacher, a legislator, and a friend and neighbor, she made an incredible impact on the lives of Minnesotans through her lifelong commitment to service. This is one small way to honor her legacy, and will continue on her behalf her lifelong pursuit of educating Minnesota’s kids.”

Tuesday’s Senate action followed the unanimous passage of HF 1090 in the House of Representatives on April 21. The bill now awaits the Governor’s signature into law.
