Senator John Hoffman Celebrates National Disability Employment Awareness Month

2024 theme is access to good jobs for all

(CHAMPLIN, Minn.) – Senator John Hoffman (DFL-Champlin) proudly joins the nation in recognizing October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), a time to celebrate the important contributions of Americans with disabilities to our workforce and promote inclusive employment practices.

This year’s NDEAM theme, “Access to good jobs for all,” highlights the ongoing need to create equitable opportunities and eliminate barriers for people with disabilities in all sectors of employment. As a long-time advocate for disability rights and inclusion, Senator Hoffman emphasizes the critical role that meaningful employment plays in empowering individuals, fostering independence, and strengthening our communities.

“As we observe National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we honor the achievements of workers with disabilities who contribute every day to Minnesota’s economy and beyond. Their skills, dedication, and perspectives are invaluable to the success of businesses and organizations across the state,” said Sen. Hoffman. “We must continue to ensure that workplaces are welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for everyone, and that all individuals have the opportunity to thrive professionally.”

In his time at the Legislature, Sen. Hoffman has consistently championed legislation aimed at improving access to employment for people with disabilities. His work in the Minnesota State Senate has included advocating for funding to expand disability employment services, supporting vocational training programs, and pushing for policies that promote equal pay and fair treatment in the workplace.

“We’ve made progress, but there is still work to be done to close the employment gap between people with disabilities and those without. This month serves as a reminder that our commitment to fostering a more inclusive workforce must continue year-round,” Sen. Hoffman added.

National Disability Employment Awareness Month began in 1945 to raise awareness of the employment needs and contributions of people with disabilities. Today, it remains an essential opportunity to engage employers, policymakers, and communities in conversations about workplace inclusivity, accessibility, and the value of diverse talent. As Minnesota looks to the future, Senator Hoffman calls on employers and organizations to continue taking meaningful steps toward creating an environment where all individuals can contribute their best work and succeed.
