Senator John Hoffman’s Bill Increasing Penalties for Impersonating a Peace Officer Becomes Law

(ST. PAUL, MN) – Following Monday’s signing into law of HF3404, which increases the penalties for impersonating a peace officer in Minnesota, Chief Author Senator John Hoffman (DFL-Champlin) released the following statement:

“Minnesotans expect and deserve absolute confidence when an individual presents themselves as a peace officer, that the person in that uniform is a duly licensed peace officer. That inherent trust is why I answered the door on June 14th, because I would never have thought it was anyone but a legitimate member of our law enforcement community. In those moments, that trust was shattered for me, but it should not ever happen to another Minnesotan. This law will safeguard and uphold this trust, and it will protect Minnesotans.” ###
