MINNEAPOLIS – State Senator Kari Dziedzic (DFL-Minneapolis) was recognized by the Minnesota High Tech Association (MHTA) with a Tekne Public Service Award on November 6, 2013. Tekne Awards are given to organizations and individuals for their outstanding contributions to Minnesota’s technology economy.
Six legislators received the Public Service Award for their work to establish a new Office of Broadband Development and to significantly increase funding for an internship program that links small science and technology companies to interns studying science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) at Minnesota’s colleges and universities.
“The internship program provides hands-on work experience for STEM students. It nurtures students and encourages creativity and entrepreneurship,” said Senator Dziedzic. “Keeping those students interested in STEM and having job opportunities ready for them is important for our economic growth.”
MHTA also honored 15 Minnesota companies for their innovative efforts to advance technology in Minnesota.
