[ST. PAUL] – Senator Kari Dziedzic (DFL – Minneapolis) says today, the Minnesota Department of Education announced that the Augsburg University School of Social Work is one of 13 programs to receive Student Support Personnel Workforce Pipeline Program grant funding. The program was passed by the legislature in 2023 to support students pursuing licensure as student support personnel, a field with high demand for workers.
“It is great news that Augsburg University’s School of Social Work is a recipient of Student Support Personnel Workforce Pipeline grant funding,” said Senator Dziedzic. “We passed this workforce program in 2023 to help develop this highly in demand field to better support Minnesota’s student and schools. Social workers are an integral connection between student’s holistic health and academic achievement, and these grants will help strengthen this urgent workforce need.”
The Student Support Personnel Workforce Pipeline Program supports students pursuing licensure to become school counselors, school nurses, school social workers, and school psychologists. The funds cover the cost of attendance, programming resources, and other needs. The program also works to improve recruitment and retention for Black and Indigenous people and people of color to these high demand fields to make our schools more culturally responsive and representative of Minnesota.
Augsburg’s School of Social Work was also a recipient in 2023, when grants was awarded to 10 programs.. This year, six new programs are receiving awards, as well as 7 programs that were recipients last year.
