Senator Karla Bigham Introduces Legislation to Provide Substance Misuse Awareness & Prevention Instruction in Minnesota Schools

Senator Karla Bigham (DFL – Cottage Grove) introduced SF 3173, which would require schools to provide education on substance misuse and prevention. The bill also instructs schools to include instruction on the role social media plays in the distribution of illegal drugs.

“The fentanyl epidemic is impacting every community in Minnesota, including my own,” said Senator Bigham. “This legislation is an important step in supporting our schools, teachers, students, and parents in the effort to prevent further substance misuse. I would like to thank Bridgette Norring for her advocacy on this issue, United Way of Hastings for their support, and Rep. Tony Jurgens for authoring the House companion to this legislation.”
