Senator Karla Bigham (DFL – Cottage Grove) introduced SF 3090, which would provide tax relief for Minnesota’s restaurants. Restaurants were able to secure grants through the Restaurant Revitalization Fund that was included in the federal American Rescue Plan Act. Sen. Bigham’s legislation would make those grants nontaxable income for restaurants.
“Minnesota’s restaurants made enormous sacrifices throughout the pandemic. They deserve tax relief to keep them afloat as our economy recovers,” said Senator Bigham. “This legislation will deliver restaurants a much-needed boost as many still struggle to stay afloat amid challenges posed by the pandemic. If passed, this legislation will bring Minnesota into conformity with the federal tax code, protecting Minnesota restaurants from both federal and state taxes on restaurant revitalization grants.”
