Senator Kupec Passes His First Bill of 2026 Legislative Session off the Senate Floor

Bill expands eligibility of DAIRI program for Minnesota dairy farmers

ST. PAUL, Minn. – In Tuesday’s Senate floor session, Senator Rob Kupec (DFL-Moorhead) successfully passed his bill (SF 3832) expanding eligibility for the Dairy Assistance, Investment, Relief Initiative (DAIRI) program for Minnesota’s dairy farmers. The bill passed with a unanimous vote of 66 to 0.

“The Dairy Assistance, Investment, Relief Initiative helps our Dairy farmers when the cost of milk goes down and the price of feed goes up. Our dairy farmers are facing a lot of uncertainty right now and we’ve got to support them,” said Sen. Kupec. “This will bring much needed stability for more dairy farmers and I’m proud to see strong support for this important legislation.”

The bipartisan bill expands eligibility of the DAIRI program, which began in 2019. The bill allows dairy farmers that began after 2022 to now apply for the program. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture estimates that 30 to 40 more farmers will now be enrolled in the program.

More information about the program, including information about how to apply, is available on the Minnesota Department of Agriculture website.
