The 2021 legislative session came to a close today with work still left to do and a special session on the horizon.
Following adjournment, Senator Ron Latz (DFL-St. Louis Park) released this statement:
“It’s not surprising that we did not finish our work before the end of the 2021 legislative session when the weeks leading up to it, the Senate majority refused to take the conference committee action seriously. For weeks, we saw conference committees like the Judiciary and Public Safety Committee or the Environment Committee not taking up any hearings or doing any work when the gavel was in the Senate chair’s hands.
“With the world watching us, we should not have adjourned before doing the work necessary to transform our criminal justice system. The Senate Republicans’ lack of recognition to see this opportunity to pass resounding change is further proof that they are not capable of leading us at this moment. The time is now to take steps toward creating systemic and structural change, not to adjourn with work still left to be done.”
