Senator Lindsey Port Ushers Housing Omnibus to Senate Passage

ST. PAUL, Minn. — On Thursday, May 7, Senate Housing and Homelessness Prevention Chair Senator Lindsey Port (DFL-Burnsville) passed HF 1141 off the Senate floor with bipartisan support in a 35-31 vote. The bill includes provisions that:

  • Invest $50 million in the creation and maintenance of affordable rental housing across the state through Housing Infrastructure Bonds
  • Limit private equity ownership of single-family homes
  • Expand eligibility for Greater Minnesota Housing Infrastructure Grants
  • Create new transparency procedures for the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency

“Minnesotans continue to face a housing crisis that is raising rents and mortgages across the state,” said Senator Port. “This legislation will help build and maintain affordable housing for Minnesotans in every ZIP code. I’m proud of the bipartisan support this legislation has found throughout this process, and I look forward to advancing it through conference committee with the House.”
