Senator Lindsey Port Ushers Passage of Housing Conference Committee Report

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Today, the Minnesota Senate passed the 2025 housing budget and policy omnibus bill’s (SF 2298) final conference committee report. Following passage, Senate Housing and Homelessness Prevention Committee Chair Senator Lindsey Port (DFL-Burnsville) released the following statement:

“Housing has always been an area where DFLers and Republicans can come together and agree on core needs in Minnesota, and this conference committee report is a prime example of that bipartisanship. This legislation will help us build more homes by investing in Greater Minnesota’s infrastructure needs; it will support diverse first-generation homebuyers with down payment assistance programs; and it will provide stability for renters through the Family Homelessness Prevention and Assistance Program.”

This budget package protects and builds on the generational gains that DFL legislators made for Minnesotans since 2023 that included historic investments in new housing construction and affordability, family homelessness prevention and rental assistance and comprehensive tenant’s rights reforms.

The conference committee report passed on a vote of 36-31 and now moves to the House of Representatives where it is expected to pass. Following House passage, the legislation will move to Governor Walz.
