ST. PAUL, Minn. — Yesterday, April 28, a group of state lawmakers sent a letter to members of Minnesota’s congressional delegation, expressing strong support for Head Start and Early Head Start, and urging Minnesota’s US Representatives and Senators to stand with Minnesota families and oppose President Trump’s proposed cuts to the programs.
Project 2025 – an agenda written by Trump’s current director of the Office of Management and Budget, Russel Vought – calls for the elimination of Head Start. Providers across the country are saying this would be devastating for families who rely on these services.
Across Minnesota, over 12,000 children are supported by Head Start and Early Head Start, and over 3,000 Minnesotans are employed by these programs. The elimination of this funding would have disastrous effects for working families and communities that rely on these services, and unravel decades of progress in school readiness.
“Trump and his allies continue to take from our most vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors, in order to give more tax cuts to the ultra wealthy – it’s abhorrent, it’s villainous, and it’s heartless,” said Senator Liz Boldon (DFL-Rochester). “These programs are essential for so many of Minnesota’s working families. Congressional Republicans need to remember that they serve the American people, not a wanna-be king. It’s time for them to grow a spine, and stand up to the Trump administration’s cruel, corrupt, and chaotic agenda.”
The letter – cosigned by 30 state legislators – can be found HERE.
