Senator Liz Boldon Promotes Workforce Housing Investments for Greater Minnesota

ST. PAUL, Minn. — On Wednesday, Senator Liz Boldon(DFL-Rochester) announced that Minnesota Housing’s Workforce Housing Development Program is now open for applications. Under this program, nearly $40 million will be targeted towards meeting housing needs in Greater Minnesota – an amount that vastly exceeds levels allocated by previous legislative majorities.

“In the Senate Housing and Homelessness Prevention Committee, we have heard time and time again about the shortage of affordable rental housing across our state,” said Senator Boldon, Vice Chair of the committee. “In Greater Minnesota, businesses struggle to recruit workers due to inadequate housing stock. One of the biggest concerns we heard last session and during our committee’s housing tour across the state was the lack of market-rate workforce housing, which is holding back small towns and cities from their greatest potential. These funds – along with other housing investments from the 2023 session – will help address these challenges, build on the program’s past success, and support economic growth and prosperity for communities across Minnesota.”

Applications for the program are due on April 30th, 2024. More information on applicant eligibility can be found on Minnesota Housing’s website.
