Senator Liz Boldon Responds to Mass Shooting at School in South Minneapolis

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Senator Liz Boldon (DFL-Rochester) issued the following statement regarding this morning’s shooting at Annunciation Church in Minneapolis:

“I am horrified by the shooting that took place in Minneapolis this morning. My heart breaks for the lives lost and families directly impacted by the violence. These students were excited to begin a new school year and reunite with their friends after summer vacation; they did not deserve to endure this trauma and witness the deaths of their classmates.

“Our state has been rocked by several acts of targeted gun violence and assassinations this year. ‘Thoughts and prayers’ have not worked to solve a problem unique to our country, and they will never work. Until all elected officials have the courage and sense to stand up to the wealthy gun lobby and take action, these devastating attacks will continue to plague our country.

“It does not have to be this way. DFL lawmakers have passed legislation that addresses gun violence, but our Republican colleagues continue to stand in the way of necessary, common-sense reforms. We can and must take action to prevent gun violence from claiming more lives.”
